Not in '48. They just finished chasing Nazis all the way into Germany, and they had several millions of battle hardened soldiers - and a fully military economy. They were on the roll. At least one of their key leaders - Zhukov - was looking for any excuse to keep plowing through the rest of Europe.

By 1950's "de-Stalinization" was going full blast, and in due course the USSR got dismantled - without any major or nuclear confrontations. Socialistic approaches do not work well - neither there, nor here.
