It is the relative distribution of the bargaining power that flows from adoption of currency, and more so from paper currency, and even more so from electronic currency. The pie actually gets bigger because of economies of scale. However, rulers should not abuse the power of currency, just like companies like Toyota should not abuse their brand by cutting corners. -Arun
