If you have Comcast, Sarah Palin's Alaska is available On Demand.

Sarah clubbing a jumungous halibut into senselessness

LOL! Yeah, contrary to the commonly preferred belief, living creatures need to be killed before they can be cooked and eaten.

gutsy, rugged, outdoorsy nature, and huge level of energy

Agree. This is what I always found so impressive about SP. I'd trust a person like her, who has strength, wisdom and integrity -- over thieving little cerebral types, who are just as likely to "think" themselves into senselessness. And I'm not being anti-intellectual here. The truth is that many of those (technically) high IQ people are in fact pretty dumb.

The TV show shows us the enormous halibut, which have to be stunned with a club before being killed so they don’t flop around so much on the deck that they injure their meat.

I was taught to shoot the halibut with a .357 shotshell. A 300 pound halibut going rogue on the deck of your boat could cause real problems.

…another president sharing some traits with Palin: the muckracking, hunting, wild Western: Theodore Roosevelt. Other similarities: five children, not a great deal of prior national-level political experience (Teddy’s highest offices before being tapped for VP were Assistant Secretary of the Navy for one year and NY Governor for one year—although his military exploits with the Rough Riders had made him nationally known). Teddy was also extraordinarily young; at 42, he remains the youngest President ever.

Nobody wanted TR to be President either! They were so scared of him as Governor of New York that they kicked him upstairs to be Vice President, where they thought he would be harmless.

Then McKinley was assassinated, and to the horror of the establishment, TR, "the steam engine in trousers," became President.
