Actually, John, FINANCIAL BUBBLES (followed by the inevitable financial bubble-busts) is what kills off the weak, and the over-extended, and the fraudulent, financial institutions. Too-loose-for-too-long credit conditions and too-lenient-policing-for-far-too-long (as we had for the past decade or two....) (Not 'Presidents' walking around 'Terminator' style and going all 'Destructo' on 'em! LOL!) And... Schumperterian Free Market Economics Theory and it's advocates have a name to describe such economic phases --- they call it "creative destruction" because the strong industries of the future can't emerge and thrive until the soil is fertilized by the corpses of the failures....
