That includes Zacarias Moussaoui, the so-called 20th hijacker, and “Shoe Bomber” Richard Reid. Nor is the system the foot-dragging caricature that critics portray. A few weeks ago, Faisal Shahzad was sentenced to life in prison — just six months after his attempted Times Square car bombing.

"Somali Pirates Convicted in Virginia"

Five Somali men, who were captured by the U.S. Navy in April after they shot at an American guided-missile frigate off the coast of Africa, were convicted of piracy by a federal court in Virginia on Wednesday.

The men now face mandatory life sentences, a spokesman for the Department of Justice told Reuter
