Might be. I am no expert on large halibut fishing, or for that matter, Alaskan waters fishing.

I would guess that someone in the past watched Alaskan natives club their catch to death and said, "Hell, let's just shoot them".

Then, after their boat had a large bullet made hole, or after someone was bleeding from the arm, they went back the native's method of dealing with their catch.

Just a WAG.

Anything as long as it's to the head. Hubby shot a 300 lb Halibut with a 22 before bringing it on board.

While it was still in the water Mr. Lucky. ;)
