RE: emergence of Borland as one of the best Java tool companies. ... Borland's other tools are gaining acceptance, but I think it's the JBuilder product that's going to be viewed as the start of a major comeback for Borland.

I disaggree. BORL is emerging as a premier provider of enterprise ready tools. They have re-established themselves as a competitor. They are announcing significant products at the rate of 2-3 per Q. They are quickly gaining credibility in IS. And they are moving products. Especially Delphi and C++ Buiilder. They are moving into the high margin enterprise arena using the low-margin PC tools market to gain developer support. Imagine an experienced Delphi user who needs to build some enterprise applications. Hmm. Wonder what $45K tool he will recomend to his manager.

I do believe that having a good Java tool is going to be significant, but the real question is when will that equal significant revenues. The answer is probably not for at least a year. Now that the Java hype has dies down, investors will be more interested in who can make money off of Java. That, has not yet been answered.

BORL is cooking because they are demonstrating that they understand the tools market better than anybody else. Bottom line, they get it!!
