Yes, it's important when investing to know who to trust. We know we can't trust governments.

Without currencies, it's hard for people to conduct trade. "I'll give you two hens for 3 sacks of potatoes" is hard work. Also keeping the hens in the bank, saving them for a rainy day, is difficult and expensive. Doing a telegraphic transfer of a few thousand hens to pay for a house is difficult too.
