Personally I think Pawlenty is the best GOP option to defeat Obama. He's a seasoned governor, personable, and has a record of budget reduction. Other potential contenders whether you like them or not, such as Palin, Romney, and Huckabee all have issues that have been discussed here, but I will support the GOP nominee in 2012 whoever that might be. Something however that has not been discussed here is that a Presidential candidate cannot be on the ballot for two offices. Obviously this could influence many Governors whose state gubernatorial elections are during the presidential cycle.

Could it have been Trent Lott? Would've been Krauthammer's inside-the-beltway speed.

I do not recall who Krauthammer thought was the best VP candidate.
