We were in a recession of similar magnitude to many others that have occurred in our history. For example, the recent increase in unemployment was greater than in the early 80s, but the peak level was lower. The duration of the recent recession was longer than either part of the recession in the early 80s, but shorter than the combined period of the "double dip" we had back then.

That decison alone probably saved 3 million jobs

There is no reason whatsoever to think your statement true.

You sound like Paul Rand wanting to parse the freedom of a restaruant owner to descriminate with descrimination itself.

Your phrasing is clumsy but the two are very different things. Freedom is good, even if it enables us to do negative things. Those negative things are not so good.
