<<<Fair enough. But don't forget that there is a large (and growing) professional market out there, and Sony makes a killing in this niche. SyQuest has a fair chance at grabbing this market as well.>>>

Does this mean you are bearish on Sony? Had to ask!!

Rocky, thank you for a thoughtful and interesting response.

Syquest is indeed targeting a higher-end market than IOM. Nothing wrong or right about either approach. May they both succeed. I am on record about 6 months ago as wishing IOM would just drop Jaz since I see Zip as it's main claim to fame and it's surest cash cow (to be surpassed by Clik, hopefully). I don't think they can do as well in the crowded high-end market. Nothing in the last 6 months has happened to change my mind. But that is just my opinion, and most here disagree with me, You would probably agree.

My biggest fear right now, and it caused me to sell my trading shares yesterday, is that the big announcement is something to do with the high-end. I fear it may become an ego thing whereby they must maintain the high-end removable option at all cost. Jaz2 should be their last foray into the high-end, IMO. How can they compete with $33 for 1GB? Or Orb? or 20GB HD? I say, let the other guys have it. Keep Zip, and make it the next floppy. I also like their consumer oriented Recordit and Buz and of course, Clik. I just hope they take note of the lessons from the repeated DD sector bloodletting, that you can't compete with companies who are willing to dump and keep your margins up.
