joarel: remarks on "clouds on the horizon"
1) Data trans: I agree with you that the data market is growing significantky and most would agree that none of the Bells are into this big time. While most would also say that SBC could have/should have grabbed a much bigger piece of the internet market most miss the fact that because of the internet SBC has increased sales of Primary rate ISDN and T1's and second lines tremendously.
2) I can't wait until the California regulatory body gets aquainted with SBC. I SBC is excellent in this area. If the California PUC doesn't loosen up, I wonder how the State politicians will feel when SBC closes down San Ramon and other corporate offices. It worked in Missouri, it worked in Texas and I'm sure it will work in California.
3) Union contracts - you might be right but SBC has done a good job of partnering with the CWA and I would think this would continue.
4)Law suit - To hard to call

Oh, a little story about Pac Tel style vs SBC style. (No insults intended to Pac Tell employees)
An Exec Dir friend of mine was told to figure out the # of people doing "billing" in both companies. He called his PacTell coordinate and told him the assignment and set up a meeting in California to discuss in 2 weeks. He then got 3 SBC folks and in 2 days came up with a good # for the SBC portion. He and a subordinate then attended the meeting in California 1 1/2 weeks later. To his amazement, there were 40 Pac Tel people in the meeting and they presented him with 4 thick binders on the method they had developed to figure out the # of people problem. They had spent all this time just developing a method and stilll didn't have the answer to the question! My friend went nuts. I do believe that after the new year, many things will be changing and PacTel will not have 40 people left with enough spare time to produce methods llike this.
Good investing!

IMHO (In my humble opinion)
