"It's not hard to find singing talent. I can walk into a church or a college campus and find singers that are just as good as any of the American Idol finalists."

That's more than just a little exaggerated.....AI screens 10's of thousands around the country before the first show of every season...

"Basically it's a bunch of recording executives saying, "We'll decide what the public wants to hear." And the public just goes along like sheep. That explains half of the crap that passes for pop music these days."

When wasn't it like this??

"But then again, the pop music industry these days isn't really about talent anymore. It's all about connections."

When did you think it ever was? My brother is a pro musician, plays about 8 instruments wonderfully, yet hasn't gotten a sniff from the recording companies. He's just one of thousands of ultra-talented people you'll never hear. Hit a few bars with live music in your area.

Which is why it's so sad to see a fat Bristol Palin clomping her way to the final on DWTS!

The talent isn't in singing. A modern studio can solve the talent problem by simply transforming the vocals.

There hasn't been any significant new singing talent since Bonnie Raitt won the Grammy. The next year they gave it to a total no-talent singer, Mariah Carey.

Today it is about marketing garbage to a willing public.

Post 70s music sucks.

They call it American Idol, not American Singer for a reason.
