Candle,

As my brokerage (Accutrade) explained it to me, shares can only be loaned out from margin accounts and not from non-margin accounts. Is this the general rule, or brokerage specific?

Also, you can establish a separaite non margin account and just ask that the stock be moved over. Then it can't be lent because you didn't sigh a hypothecation agreement. If you get a margin call or decide to sell, you can call your broker and have the stock moved back over night.

Shipping out may leave you in limbo a couple of weeks.
