To answer your question, you merely need to read the prior 12,428 posts on this thread and research the references on them. I'd summarize for you, but I can't spare the gigahours required.

Sunny,

What Ken was trying to say is:

1. Ancor doesn't make Fibre optic products, they make Fibre channel products. Fibre Channel is an ANSI standard networking protocol. Fibre channel can run on copper, or, if large distances(up to 10KM) are needed, fibre.

2. Current transfer rate of FC is 1 Gbit/sec. Plans are in the works for 4Gbit/second transfer rates.

3. Fibre channel is in the early stages of replacing SCSI as the storage standard. Fibre channel drives are being shipped and FC Storage Area Networks (SANs) are being developed by many, many companies presently.

4. There are over 100 companies in the FC association in different capacities. Ancor was one of the founding companies of FC.

5. Ancor sells many FC products but the place they are concentrating is in the FC switch market. Switches allow many devices to be hooked together and communicate and unlike hubs that have an aggegate bandwidth of 1Gb/sec, switches have 1Gb/sec bandwidth per port and the switches are cascadable for virtually unlimited bandwidth (at least with Ancor's switch)

6. FC is just beginning to gain more than niche status. Look at the lower end FC companies and their projected revenue ramp up in the next couple years for an idea of where the technology is going.

If you are a serious investor I suggest reading the Ancor home page, Craig Stevenson's page (could somebody post its location?) for starters.

Good luck,

Steve

Sunny,

Optical fiber is the medium that Fibre Channel utilizes. You can visit this thread for more information on the Fibre Channel technology and news. Some time, but not gigahours, necessary:

exchange2000.com

Also, Craig Stevenson's Unofficial Ancor Page has a lot of consolidated information in regards to Ancor and the Fibre Channel community:

geocities.com

If you are inquiring into Ancor's market share and compatibility etc. for investment purposes, understand that the Fibre Channel market is really just getting started and there are no clear front runners as of yet, but Ancor's GigWorks MKII Gigabit Switch is optimized to deliver all classes of service with the lowest latency, not to mention that it is the only such switch in the market right now. Which isn't to say that there won't be others.

Also, all of the stuff iceburg wrote.

You might want to visit the Fiberspace Investing thread for Fiber Optic stuff:

Douglas
