Wade...

>>I do not think things are as simple and rosy as you suggest with respect to the power industry. I cite, for example,

accsyst.com;

I am not saying he is wrong but at first glance I wonder about his motives.

Given that the author is working for an IT company focusing on the Y2K problem for utilities, maybe he is slightly biased about the maginutude of the problem.

It would appear that his income is derived from the revenue that is generated by his and his company's sales to the utility industry.

His web site makes a wonderful resource and a wonderful sales aid for him.

I am NOT saying this is his motive however think about it. It sure makes me suspicious.

Wade, you should read the contrarian views section on the link you posted. Also cnet.com

I will admit that the electric power industry may have some problems in non-critical COBOL systems such as billing. They will NOT have problems with blackouts or meltdowns. I am aware of many power plants and control centers which have been tested with system clock set to 2000, have not seen a crash yet.
