CYMER INC. Adjusts "Operating Plans" for 1997 Third Quarter--

Ticker: CYMI (news)
Highlight: PFE
Date: 970908

Sept. 8, 1997, Cymer Inc. (CYMI) said it had to make "some adjustments" in its operating plans for the remainder of the third quarter of 1997, "which certainly
creates more risk this late" in the quarter. CYMI added it has "confidence in the company's performance and industry fundamentals."

The company also said it withdrew from a financial conference "last week" because it was notified of a "potential development that could have affected the
company's near term financial performance." The company said the "issue has been resolved, just as we have resolved similar situations in previous quarters."

The company said it feels it will be in a position "to provide guidance to the marketplace by early Monday morning with some additional facts on the issue."

CYMI said company representatives were scheduled to make a presentation at Needham & Co.'s semiconductor equipment conference on September 3. "In this
case the issue came to our attention shortly before the Needham conference," CYMI said. "We deemed it prudent and appropriate to withdraw from the
conference to assess the matter and our response."

CYMI could not be reached for additional comment.
