The disloyal opposition seems to hold all the strings, and is attempting to make Mr Obama dance to its tune. But giving in to Republican blackmail weakens the President further. Why not just let all the tax cuts expire? Dare it, dare them, and damn the consequences! These tax cuts were the source of much of Bush's deficit, along with unfunded wars, the real estate bubble et al—none of which happened on Obama's watch. By now we all realize Obama has no partners on the Republican side. Instead of playing their game, he needs to go in front of the media, and blame Boehner, et al, for any rise in taxes. Target Republican cynicism. Call for a reckoning by having the public march on Congress. Demand they renew Unemployment Compensation or raise Holy Hell. To hold out on the START Treaty is dangerous, disingenuous, and disloyal. Obama has great rhetorical skills; but he fails to use them at moments of crisis; which is equivalent to hiding his light under a bushel. The public wants a White Knight (of any color) no matter how disconnected that is to original intent of the office. The public doesn't give a hoot about original intent. We who voted for him with the utmost belief in "Yes we can" are nearly crushed by the "Oops, no we can't" attitude. We don't need a facilitator, we need a leader. Dare the Republicans on tax cuts by letting them all expire. Or else....
