"But if there is another reason you didn't convert I would be interested."

I want to maximize my investable cash to maximize the value of our IRA assets. If I manage my taxable accounts well I may be able to pass all of our IRA money along to our family. They can pay the tax over an extended period.

Bob

I converted my wife's IRA for admin convenience. It was funded by non deductible (after tax) contributions and we would have to calculate the diff between the basis (the sum of the contributions) and the gain each time we took a distribution. Roth eliminates this step.

Hi Ed:

Do you believe that ROTH IRA's will be tax free forever on the gain?

I don't.
