From your statement it appears that you are presuming that the govt uses the money wisely.

Usually, yes. But governments are just humans, and humans make mistakes. Our governments probably use funds as wisely as the private sector, and more wisely than individuals.

You may be thinking that the key to a successful country is a large govt.

Well if you look around the world you'll see that all the successful countries have large governments. So yeah that is true. Not the only key, but a key. Natural resources help a lot. Respect for the rule of law, etc.

What do you think is the key to US success?

Not wanting higher taxes does not necessarily mean one is selfish or has a me first attitude.

It does when your communities can't repair or build needed infrastructure and services.

Lots of generations have paid dearly for the stuff that you are enjoying and do not want to maintain for future generations.

The civic minded cloth coat conservatives of the past would call you guys selfish and me first, that's for sure.

This is a generalization that means little without reasoned arguments that deal with the country's needs.

Well, no, but it could signal a lack of introspection about the issues that affect the nation. You can't run policy around charity or voluntary tax donations by those who advocate (the inevitability of) higher taxes (as well as spending cuts) to close the national debt.

Of course it means that....who are you trying to kid? You all are the first to complain when gov't services are not up to snuff while diligently looking for ways to cut back on gov't spending. I can't remember who said this but he said when they try to steal the money from the US Treasury then we will know democracy has ended in these united states. That's exactly what your party is trying to do...........drain the Treasury dry. Bush was classic in that regard.

All you people care about is your wallets. Nothing else matters.......and you are infuriated if someone else benefits from your tax money. You are in the game only for yourselves.....and maybe your families. No one else. You are the bad guys........period.
