Logically it doesn't make any sense for Pfizer to have a PR campaign now. First, it would be illegal. Second, it could jeopardize the current FDA priority review. Third, they can't sell any product, so the effort is useless at this time. The only benefit would be to build up anticipation for an unknown launch date. The risks far outweigh this benefit!

Even if a Pfizer manager decided to break the law (which is very, very unlikely), there is no need to position themselves at the current time since it is clear they will be the first oral ED product on the market.

A much more likely scenario is the media wanting to focus on to a very hot topic. Sex still sells on both TV and the print media.

Accordingly, Pfizer is keeping quiet about Viagra (with the exception of allowable analysts and corporate meetings), getting free PR from a hungry media, and staying within FDA regulations.
