Because it has been my observation that if a person is thinking with a clear mind and compassion they are on the left. There are a lot of clear minded, very intelligent Rs who don't give a flying crap about anyone else. Their main goal in life is ambition and money. And that has been true throughout history. It is why 81% of scientists lean dem and only 12% lean Republican. Scientists for the most part care about the common good. Because someone doesn't care about the common good does not make them stupid. YOu are educated and smart. I have been busy so I only heard about the deal from other Dems and what I heard was that he was trading the unemployment benefits for the extension of the tax cuts for the rich. It didn't make sense to me. Now after reading Sullivan's take on the matter and seeing the complexity of the deal, I realize its not as bad as everyone was making it. Am I happy? Of course not. I want to screw the rich as much as the next person but I now understand why Obama is doing what he's doing. You tell me where the big minds and compassion are on the right? There may be little compassion on the right but there are big minds. If you think otherwise, you are deluding yourself and underestimating the nature of the enemy. It is a big void on the right ,like the world was for 1,000 years after the destruction of the ancient Greeks. The right is dominated by Beck, Palin, Limbaugh, De lay, Boehner, Macconnell. those are their leaders, not just some people on the fringes! Are those are the people you want us to follow and compromise with? No, I don't want to follow them but doesn't mean they aren't very clever and successful. And lets not stop there......you don't think Murdoch is brilliant? Summer Redstone? Sheldon Andelson? Bill O' Reilly? These men have built huge empires.....and they didn't do it just by being ruthless. You seem to confuse intellect with integrity. They do not go hand in hand. In fact, you need to spend a year in LA. A lot of very smart people down would steal you blind, kill you and have you buried in the desert and would not think twice about doing it. And they are not suffering from a low IQ.
