It is truly extraordinary how long it takes to sink in for most of the world around us that inflation will not be an accident this time around -- oh no -- this time around inflation is the heart and soul of the game plan. The way to make the bad debt go away is not to call the loans -- oh no -- it is not to wipe out the bond holders -- oh no -- it is not to wipe out the shareholders -- oh no -- the game plan is to wipe out the people too slow to realize that it is the dollar itself that is being wiped out. What is the right rate of interest on a worthless currency? A spectacular philosophical question -- but one not worth answering for investors. The right answer is 'don't hold dollars'. This exam is given every day -- eventually everybody will pass it.
