Inventec ships 60,000 Chrome OS netbooks to Google digitimes.com Yen-Shyang Hwang, Taipei; Joseph Tsai, DIGITIMES [Wednesday 8 December 2010] Alongside Google's announcement of its new Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system as well as Chrome OS on December 7, Inventec confirmed that it has already shipped about 60,000 Chrome OS-based netbooks to Google, which are expected to be used for testing. Chrome OS-based products from global PC brand vendors are estimated to appear in channel in the first half of 2011. Acer has cooperated with Quanta Computer to develop a 10.1-inch Atom N550-based Chrome OS netbook, featuring both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules; however, Acer is conservative about market demand as consumers normally have a difficult time changing their PC habits. In other news, although Google has unveiled a new version of Android, first-tier vendors plan to hold off until the launch of Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) in the first quarter of 2011 before rolling out tablet PCs, sources from PC players noted.
