It takes 67 votes to override a presidential veto and given the conservative Dem senators they would have gotten it. And even if they did not override the veto, the tax cuts to the middle class would have expired as well. The economy can't afford that now even as you don't care.

The movement needs to move ahead with "baby steps". And that baby step is to go ahead with the WH plan with this lameduck. Then when the new Congress convenes, the fight to repeal "estate taxes" for the 3,600 rich folks can be reopened. I am not saying that the House Republican majority will allow that to come to the floor for a vote. But the Democrats can keep it on the back burner to rally their base similar to what the Repubs did with Obamacare.

No matter what Repubs want to do with repealing Obamacare, I think it will be difficult considering the Senate and the WH being Democrats who support it. But is Obamacare what we want? We know we have a lot to do particularly "public option" and ultimately single payer. But am I happy what we have for now. Sure. Similarly on tax breaks and job creation.

I support that approach that at a time when the economy is on the u pswing, let us not upset the applecart. Obama should not give any opening for the Repubs to say in 2012 except to say what he has been saying "When the middle class is held hostage, I have to act to ensure that they do not hurt more at a time when they are already hurting." We need to win the war and not the battle.

That is my grouse with the "extremist" left.
