He can sustain a veto with 34 Senators. He will have 53 to work with. The country that elected him walked away from him, holding its nose, when he wimped on health care, if not earlier when he wimped on stimulus. It's why the Obama voters stayed home in Nov. I just had more patience and a stronger stomach than a lot of them.

Except that's what happens to Dem voters during every midterm election....they don't bother to vote. They only come out for presidential elections. And that's not the major reason why the Dems lost the election. The major reason is because the independents moved en masse back over to the GOP side of the aisle because they did not like what they saw of the Obama agenda. It wasn't about the public option; it was about health care in general and whether it was a socialism at its worst.

Get it, wharf, this isn't CA's America.....its the Midwest's America; the South's America. They either are terribly misinformed or so embued with GOP dogma they can't see the forest for the trees. When I grew up in MN, I was told MN was very liberal. And it sure seemed that way until I went away to college and then moved to CA. And MN is one of the most liberal states in the Midwest.

Bottom line: The US is not very liberal; not very progressive and its voters are not very well informed. Obama is dealing with that reality.....you need to as well.
