Wharf, the official unemployment rate continues to be 10%; the unofficial rate much worse. So far, the economic recovery has been weak and tenuous. Most economists worry that it would take very little to cause the recovery's derailment. Maybe letting the tax cuts all expire would not do the trick but whose the fool that's willing to risk finding out if that's true or not. Not me. Not Obama.

"The economy can't afford that now "

Now that is just an untested theory. We have no way of knowing it, cuz nobody will test it. Let's see what happens. After all, economics claims to be a science.

What we know for certain is that cutting spending will cause a relapse, per FDR. We're willing to do that again, but why repeat a failed experiment?
What if "they" are wrong about letting this expire? Be a shame not to find out. After all, listening to "them" is how we got here.
