You have a point. yes, I think some of it came from an under-lying racism that really actually thought black folk couldn't do for themselves, which history of their people belies, but at least, as you say, the intentions were good.

If you read through the entire history of black Americans, there was a thriving middle class... there, imo, got to be this notion that that was not the case and pass out checks... yes, with good intentions, but also out of guilt... but with the guilt was an underlying, imo. idea they weren't quite capable... the same way you hear many 'liberals' talk about Afghanis now... oh, they so tribal, whatcha gonna do? with no knowledge of the history of the country or its people.

first off... I am not averse to smacking someone up the side of the head. I have no use for dealers (unless its pot) or theifs or such. Smack 'em up the side of the head. Fix the plumbing, and have a class in how to stop a leaking toilet. and give some idea that it really is your own... your home, or apt. and build buisnesses...

seriously... the black community had many thriving areas of life before two things... angry whites ended it, in all parts of the country... and do-gooder liberals, with their underlying racism, thought it best to just give checks out and build housing they would then leave to rot.

ooops. yes, I feel strongly about this.

as to conservative/.liberal... I separate the notions. surely many blacks are conservative in many ways. that is fine. and so am I. Obama is finally, after the debacle of the 60's, trying to redefine how we see things. I have no idea what old white male middle-class liberals actually want. no idea at all. I do know they don't give a fak about me as a woman cause what they yell about has nothing to do with me and they seem to think all good things reside in the balls.

oh, ideas... yes, I have some. they require work. and belief in people. and daym you best know how to fix a leaky toilet when I'm done with you.

Liberals are alive and well and have not changed a bit, except many call themselves progressives these days as the right wing villified the word liberal. But liberal is a more honest word, IMO.

I am a lifelong liberal. Never had a conservative thought in my life to speak of.

I was/am also a west coast 60's hippie.

I have always been a liberal because they have always been the culture of compassion, thinking and justice; and I remember segregation and Joe Macarthy, and I saw how the conservatives fought integration. And always felt Adlai Stevenson would have been 10 times the president as IKE.

Protesting the the Vietnam War and existential counter culture movement, both liberal ideas. Macgovern versus Nixon. Liberal vesus conservative criminal-lol.

The liberals were usually the ones with compassion and forward thinking.

Take a look at this 1964 civil rights vote by conservatives and liberals: Conservatives filibusterd for 54 days to stop integration. That is pornographic it is such ugly behavior.

By party and region
Note: "Southern", as used in this section, refers to members of Congress from the eleven states that made up the Confederate States of America in the American Civil War. "Northern" refers to members from the other 39 states, regardless of the geographic location of those states.

The original House version:

Southern Democrats: 7–87 (7%–93%)
Southern Republicans: 0–10 (0%–100%)
Northern Democrats: 145-9 (94%–6%)
Northern Republicans: 138-24 (85%–15%)
The Senate version:

Southern Democrats: 1–20 (5%–95%)
Southern Republicans: 0–1 (0%–100%)
Northern Democrats: 45-1 (98%–2%)
Northern Republicans: 27-5 (84%–16%)

<<We're pretty much alike. I actually was a mild conservative until about 10 years ago. Or thought I was. I didn't change. But everything else seemed to.

Listen the liberals with their housing projects and their welfare and their social workers may not have been perfect or even competent. But they were trying. Now a days I'm not so sure the modern liberal is trying. Just gave up. None of that stuff worked and nobody has any good ideas. I don't. Do you?>>
