the interviewer was very gentle.

before the production ever begins the "point"
of the interview is decided upon. in most of the
mainstream US media the "point" would be to demonize
the "piracy and lawlessness" in that area of the world
and to shock, outrage and cause appall. that brings
the most eyeballs (which is what commercial TV is about)
and it keeps the anger and angst simmering as long as possible.

the "point" of a program like this quickly becomes obvious
by listening to the questions and responses of the interviewer.

the "point" of this interview was to highlight the courage
of myda in the face of what might be called a living nightmare.
myda was allowed to relate the incident exactly as she
experienced it without having to follow some interviewer's
idea of an international "shock and awe" event that gets off
into politics, weapons laws, etc.

i really appreciated the way this program was produced. it's
rare... there are few media producers in the US that ever
take this approach.

it made for a much more powerful production (at least for me).
