One of the most personally disturbing things with Shrub is that he made me find the positives in Nixon. That's unforgivable.

Same with Obama; Nixon may have been more of a progressive domestically, what with EPA, OSHA, and an unpassed health care plan which was better than this one.

Damn, he was fun to hate.

In Tapes, Nixon Rails About Jews and Blacks
By ADAM NAGOURNEY

One of the interesting things about reading this article yesterday morning over breakfast is that it immediately struck me as hilarious. Rip roaring funny. Reading that in the early 70s would have outraged me. Now? Not.

My wife and I love to go out for breakfast and, prior to the iPad, would fight over who got the front page first, or, in dire circumstances, would simply pick up a second copy so we both had it. But now she's in love with the iPad. She reads the Times and her political blogs over breakfast while I am the traditional newsprint consumer.

I stopped all breakfast reading yesterday morning to keep reading these Nixon quotes. I would read one; we would crack up. Then a paragraph later, here would come another, better than the first. And on and so on. Neither of us got much else read.

But we did get to the mall for our morning walk before the Xmas shopping crowds.
