The USA freed opium growers and other agriculturalists from Taleban strictures. That's not <supported and supporting drug trade in systemic way, poisoning the world, > You are saying the ends justify the means. Tsk tsk.

If huddling in the hutong is made more pleasant by smoking opium, that's a matter for the person involved. The USA is not poisoning the world. The person doing the poisoning is the person sucking on the bong.

If you decide that poisoning yourself with rotten grape juice with bits of gold floating in it is a good idea, I don't see why I should hire a lot of people to stop you, put you in gaol etc. If you decide to smoke opium also, go ahead, knock yourself out.

In Freedom Hong Kong, most free in the Cosmos, one can presumably do both.
