People, even Republicans, love Medicare. It's a winner politically. It can be implemented by simply financing it via a Federal sales tax. It will be good for US competitiveness. Corporations will love it. A huge burden will be lifted from them -- they only need to pay for filling in Medicare holes, if they wish. Republicans will like it because of the financing via a sales tax. The only losers will be insurance companies. I don't think their power is that great.

But the transition from employer based health insurance to an individual based tax seems daunting.

Yup..

Especially since in their "wisdom", it doesn't seem to bother corporations that by feeding an industry that provides nothing but charges enough to cause their payroll costs to make their products non-competitive with the civilized world, they are flirting with extinction.

Capitalism and especially money for nothing, ya gotta love it.....
