Thread,
The Compaq Server announcements and Fibre Channel announcement yesterday carry far
more potential profits than the sub $1000 PCs. I can hardly wait for CPQ to ship Fibre
Channel hardware and those wonderful 9 and 18 gig drives that they make tons-o-money
on!
Did ya ever notice how the end of Compaq's press releases don't highlight it as the largest
PC company? A couple of years ago they started highlighting how they were the 5-th
largest COMPUTER company in the world. Then they set the goal of becoming the 3-rd
largest by the year 2000. This is no accident... the servers, the server storage units
(especially the upcoming Fibre offering), the workstations, and I'll even throw in portables
(since they've cleaned up their act) is where CPQ makes the big bucks! I trust CPQ mgmt
to have a plan with sub $1000 PCs (probably just to eliminate the no-names), but the
Enterprise is where CPQ is gonna clean up and make us long timers rich!

I'm in total agreement on the potential of CPQ. Does anyone understand the significance of
yesterday's CPQ release about becoming #2 supplier of Storage Systems?

Patrick,

"47 planes, ground to air communications, and the initial, one-plane demo yielded 500,000 in revenue."

How I wish that this one statement is true. However, one thing that Lee Lewis stressed to me during a phone conversation with him around the time of the Boeing annoucement was that we should not try to extrapolate the $500,000 initial order to its ultimate potential based on the number of AWAC planes that would be outfitted. I took this to mean that each plane would take less than $500,000 to outfit, however that was never explicitly stated either but was strongly inferred.

-On another front-
Say, does anyone have the feeling that the hiccup with the Giga Ethernet standards is having a positive effect on ANCR's stock? I have been following MRVC stock and it has really been taken out and shot of late. I don't believe that the extent of the thrashing is due entirely to the general market either. Does anyone have a feel for how serious this hiccup is? Is it serious enough to give FC a shot at being a major player in the LAN? TIA...

Regards...Craig
