Guh!? How are the oil companies taking away our freedoms? Can you point to a single illiberal law passed at the behest of the oil companies?

and at the risk of acting childish, "which freedoms? Be specfic" ... I asked first!!

The oil companies and large investment banks own the government. They buy the congresspeople with hundrds of millions in contributions (pay to play) and they have thousands of lobbyists who give even more to those congresspeopel in the way of free dinners, trips and bar tabs. They ahve bought me dinner and then write favorable legislation for them and their paid members of congress pass it.

I was in politics for 30 years including a run for our state legislature. You sound like a babe in the woods. You are trusting the wrong folks man.

The large corporations pay the lowest taxes in the western world and get huge tax breaks and even subsidies, that, as mentioned, their lobbyiest literally write. why do you think cheney first thing had a secret meeting with all the top oilmen. PS cheney got a 30 million severence bonus when he left haliburton. what do you think that was for????

It was for favors. Haliburton then got the largest no bid contract in Iraq and made billions.

cheney invited the oilmen to get their wish list, which he and bush then gave to them via your tax dollars. Bush doubled the deficit in 8 years. And it all went to the rich, and the oil companies, military indutrial complex and banks.

bush in 08 gave the banks trillions of dollars of your money for free and they put it in treasuries and made record profits.

The large corporations own you dude. Just try to go against a bank or large corporation. Good luck! You can get a hearing from most governments.

Man, are you ever mixed up.

Good question. And even if a law reducing freedom was passed, or does get passed, because of lobbying by oil companies, its still the government that would be limiting our freedom. Hardly something that supports the argument that we need big government to balance big corporations.

The reality is that the federal government is far bigger than any corporation, and also far more focused on activities that can threaten our freedom. Also big activist government often operates to the benefit of large corporations, so it doesn't make much sense to me that people who generally hate big corporations (a group that does not include me), usually support a large and active government.
