I think the narcos have indeed bothered the miners, but that the extent of it is unknown. A substantial risk.

Extortion and blackmail and payoffs rule. Fortunately, the cartels are busy fighting themselves so hard that perhaps they have not been taking care of business as they should.

The narco thing is primarily urban. Easy to defend out of the way mines, not that Cerro San Pedro is out of the way.

A lot of employment goes down the gurgler if mines get shut down on account of the narcos. They are not that stupid.

I read of one company (it could be NGD) now using a plane to ship out gold due the the narco's threat to over land shipments. I'll try and find the link later today.
