Solaris On Merced

By

Sun Microsystems is working on a partnership with Intel that calls for Sun Solaris to fully support Intel's next-generation Merced chip. The companies plan to announce the agreement as early as this week, Sun sources say. Most Solaris systems are based on Sun's UltraSparc RISC chips, but the Sun platform faces stiff competition within two years once Intel and Hewlett-Packard deliver Merced, a hybrid of Intel's x86 technology and HP's PA-RISC technology.

Harry, I'm interested in what you believe a fair PE ratio is for SUNW. For a company that is projected to grow at 17-23% per year, a PE ratio of 18 seems fair in my opinion. I agree that other technology stocks have gotten ahead of themselves, but I believe INTL and SUNW are fairly priced or discounted at the present time dispite the uncertainty of Asia. Thanks for your opinion. Mark
