Incredible resources, to which their state thugs can add vigorish to be paid by others - us. That vig is then partially distributed to the sparse residents there. While at EPA I was involved in two efforts some years apart by Alaska's Congressional delegation to get out from under the regional directorship by creating a separate region just for that state, one that would have a director more sympathetic to industry in his enforcement and other decisions. They really know how to milk their natural resources.
