There are two primaries concepts the right wing just never gets: 1) We are the government. There is no other government, because we live in a democracy. In Stalin's Russia, or Hitler's or Mao's, or any dictatorships, that was not true. They were the government. 2) In America, we have a saying: "we would rather let 10 guilty people go free than convict one innocent person. 3) The same is true during a depression. Yes, there are lots of freeloaders, but I would rather feed a freeloader than take a chance on a worthy member of our society going hungry, or suffer e.g the sickly 85 year old woman living all alone. The same goes for all our social programs. We have lots of freeloaders, but as my dear old mom used to say: "they aren't living that well", and we must ensure the needy members of our tribe are secure with food and sheltor. If one has a conscience. If one has a sociopathic personality, then of course they don't give a shit.
