You certainly don't want to be a Christian in Vietnam...

There are millions of openly Christian Vietnamese...particularly Catholics, which makes up something like 10% of the population.

Remember the famous videos of the helicopters leaving US Embassy during the fall of Saigon? There is huge, well attended Catholic Church almost directly across the street from where that took place.

I am not a particularly religious person, but I spend a lot of time in Vietnam.

Their rivalry goes much further back ...

Montagnards originally dwelt on / in lowlands and on the coast..

Migrating / invading Vietnamese drove them into the highlands in the 9th century AD.. Vietnamese were pretty brutal.. brutal war all around.. biggest thing on TV when I was a kid.. that and civil rights, Ed Sullivan, Bonanza and Hockey Night in Canada...:O)
