Ed,

The Canadian economic model is of great interest to me. As I have pondered our political march to the left I have asked myself how bad could it be if we went to where Canada is. We have close acquaintances there and spend time there each summer. Frankly, their life styles are essentially the same as ours - despite a much higher tax burden.

They are blessed with a huge national revenue stream from mineral and energy exports that helps. They also do not have the demographic issues we have as a legacy of our history. They also have a very small defense budget.

So - I truly wonder if the Canadian economic model would work here? It would mean higher taxes and Yankee come home (which I am all for).

Would it work here? And in pondering the question - recognize that Ontario is about as broke as California despite their taxes.

Perhaps a full discussion of this issue would require a holiday rule change by Big for a couple of days - but I do not think it needs to be a harsh partisan discussion.

Bob
