It's a good question. I too am disappointed with many of the promises Obama has not kept. However, my dislike of some of his policy decisions will only potentially result in me not voting for him in 2012. But the GOP dislike of him goes beyond policy decisions. They routinely push out pretty vitriolic and malicious propaganda like he's really a Muslim or he's a socialist or communist or he's the anti-Christ or he's not really American and has no American birth certificate, etc etc.

Why the hatred? My own theory is that the GOP has become bankrupt when it comes to ideas. So they aren't intellectually honest enough to combat Obama and the Dems in the world of ideas. So they have resorted to two strategies to regain power: 1) stonewall and obfuscate and block any legislation that may be a win for Obama, even if it is good for this country, 2) assassinate Obama's character at every chance.

So far, it has been a remarkably successful strategy. At this rate, they may even take the senate and Presidency the next go round. Too bad they couldn't do it with good ideas instead.

Honestly, I think it's time for the GOP leaders like Boehner and McConnel to give way to the younger generation like Marc Rubio. The older GOP members have become a caricature. They're all loony tunes. I long for the days gone by of principled, practical leadership from the GOP like we used to get from folks like Bush Senior. Those days are long gone.
