I sometimes feel bad for posting here, because I don't like to be negative. However, I have deep concerns which go way beyond the quality (or lack thereof) of the bloated software on my system. The amount of wealth and power Microsoft has gained is scary to me. Scary because I don't believe they have my best interest in mind. Even if Gates believes in his own mind that he is somehow on a mission to improve everyone's lives through his technology, that's not what I see happening. What I see is a company with so much money that they can buy their way into other industries. It's a snowball effect, it's growing exponentially, and to me it seems unprecidented. What is missing here is a sense of responsibility. A conscience that says, "I've already got more money than I could ever spend. Maybe the world doesn't need or want to be controlled by Microsoft. Maybe we don't need to buy our way into telecommunications and banking. Maybe I won't be any happier as a person when I'm worth trillions, not billions. Maybe this isn't a big game to those without the power to play. Maybe we should go back to trying to produce software products which sell on their own merit, and prove to the world we can succeed without a massive licensing base and a near-monopolizing stranglehold on the vast majority of operating systems world-wide."

Jealosy, no. Fear of what's to come, yes.
