Yes, the DNA record is very exciting, indeed. It seems almost every day we learn something not just new, but revelatory.

Especially exciting because genes are reliable, unlike family historians. No embellishment, they just are.

BTW, my younger son, Nick, wishes to point out that tribalism is very common among primates, and not uncommon among mammals as a whole.

I query whether flocking behavior, e.g., birds, might also be tribal.

He suggests that tribal behavior is mutual aid for non-immediate family members.

I ask, what about philanthropists, e.g., the Dalai Lama, Mother Theresa?

He suggests that globalization has expanded the definition of "tribe" to include the whole human race.
