This is the coldest fall on record since records were being kept. Now follow along because it gets complicated, very complicated. Of December's 31 days 21 day or 22 days are in the season of Fall. Now if 21 or 22 days were included in the coldest Fall on record I would say chances are a month whose 2/3rds are included in that coldest season I would reason that month is also going to be the coldest on record. Unless of course we see some 80 or 90 degree days between now and New Year. I know you can never admit you are wrong even when the facts prove you to be wrong as they most often do. The temperatures here have not been above freezing since the beginning of November. I can remember February 1963 when for the month the temperature never rose above freezing and back then the weather men said that February was the coldest February since the 1890s. Now we have just experienced a November December month long cold spell just as cold. A record breaking cold spell for the Fall which is as cold as the coldest winters on record. So much for "Global Warming".

From the Washington Post:

"So far the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reports 63 record snowfalls in the United States, 115 lowest-ever temperatures for the month. Only 44 Octobers over the past 114 years have been cooler than this last one. The polar ice is accumulating faster than usual, and some of the experts now concede that the globe hasn't warmed since 1995."

Never let the facts get in your way!

December looks like coldest on record even if it isn't quite over yet.

A second straight record low temperature set Wednesday contributed to what is shaping up to be Melbourne's coldest December on record.

Isn't it summer in Australia? Brittian the temperature never went above zero in December. Here in North eastern PA the barometer never went above freezing for the whole month so far.

All this while Monroe LA hit 82 on December 21st.
