The US needs to quit throwing roadblocks in front of basic scientific and medical research in this area.

No such roadblocks exist. It's already been thoroughly researched and found lacking in nearly every clinical trial. That said - "Medical Marijuana" is legal in many States and you can do all the in home clinical trials you want with a prescription.
