Note: Most of the time Explorer loses its place in the thread the first time I click on the Back arrow. When that happens I just scroll back to where I want to be reading posts and select the next post I am interested in.

You can right click a link and select "open in new window" or something like that. Then click the X box to close the window and select the next one you want from the thread index page that's still in the first window.
