SUNW behaving poorly today. Many big-cap techs have rebounded but
sun only 3/8 off lows.

I don't think sun will become a takeover target. IBM already has it's own UNIX boxes.

xiangheng xu:

You state:
> if the price of sun continue to tank, it may become a take-over
> target.

With all due respect to you, and please do not take this personal, but your above statement made me laugh so hard my colleagues came to my office wondering what was so funny. So I showed them your comment and they also had a smile too.

It is beyond me why everytime a high tech stock's price goes down everyone all of a sudden starts about the company being taken over?! The same things were/are being said about ASND, IFMX, COMS, LSI, TER, ... just to name a few. Even back in 92 when IBM was in its $40's the same things were being said about that company. I guess if INTC (the stock) also continues to go down it will probably be taken over too! And now SUNW?!! And perhaps even MSFT too if its stock continues to go down?!!!

On a serious note, take my word, or if you dont want, just think about it and then take your own words: Sun is not - and this is with capital letters NOT - going to be taken over! Sun will most likely take over someone else rather than being taken over. And perhaps the decline in price have to do with some rumors I have been hearing again regarding its interest in Apple (despite the fact that I know Apple will not also be for sale).

My guess is because of the interest rate hike in Hong Kong and the situation in Japan, Sun is percieved to be hurting badly. Some of the big fund managers are dumping their shares and will soon (probably by end of this week) will come out and downgrade the stock (meaning: We are done selling and now our big shot clients want to buy back the shares, so all you small players go ahead and sell yours to us!). My own opinion is that, no matter how Japan or South East Asia is effected the demand for Sun's products (mainly servers and especially its StarFire) are high enough to offset any currency fluctuations and/or revenue.

Fear sure is short lived but it certainly is a much stronger emotion than greed! Relax, this shall pass too and greed will soon take over the situation. Take advantage of market's fears in order to gain from its greed later! Too bad I am almsot out of any meaningful cash right now and as I am fully invested, and I wished this was January so I had access to some extra cash! Oh well....

As always just my humble opinion.

Regards,

Addi Jamshidi

Are you sure that isn't from something thats 6-7 years old???

At least that is what I've been hearing for the last 6 years
and it never seems to occure.
