Samsung set themselves a big goal in stating that they hoped to be able to sell 10 million Galaxy S devices this year. It looks like they are going to make their target though as they have now managed to shift 9.3 million handsets, making it one of the most popular Android handsets ever, and one of the most popular handsets of 2010.

That figure is for global sales, but there is good news at home too as Samsung has managed to sell 2 million units. By comparison the iPhone (all generations) has notched up 1.8 million sales in South Korea.

Samsung expect the big 10 million barrier to be passed before the calendar year ends i.e. within the enxt week or so. ###

Samsung Galaxy S is the most popular smartphone OS-based Android, which worldwide sold 9.3 million units

Samsung announced in early October that their target to reach the number of sold Galaxy S is 10 million before the end of 2010. Until then no smartphone based on Android operating system has yet hit this mark in sales.

Galaxy S also set a record for sales in South Korea, where it was sold two million smartphones. This is 200,000 more than the sales of iPhone in this country. For comparison, global sales of the iPhone in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2010 amounted to 14 million units.

Galaxy S for the first time began to be sold on June 4 in Singapore. On the shelves of European and American stores this smartphone was received a few weeks later, and currently, the cost of a smartphone in online stores has dropped.

Galaxy S is an Android smartphone, features a 1 GHz Hummingbird processor along with 8 to16 GB internal Flash memory, a 4-inch 480×800 pixel Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen display, a 5-megapixel camera and on select models, a VGA front camera. The Samsung Galaxy S is a base version of the phone, the GT-I9000, was quickly followed by variant models for the US carriers, including the Epic 4G, Vibrant, Captivate, and Fascinate. ###
