[Alcatel ADSL modem w/ USB interface]

If USB can support the throughput requirements of ADSL simultaneously with all the other data traffic slated for USB (SCSI, video, et al.), then this could be a big win. most new PC's will have USB built in by next summer and USB peripheral configuration should be a snap. it eliminates the requirement for an ethernet adapter in the customer PC. it doesn't address the installed base of PC's, though.

[Intel and ADSL]

<<<RICHARDSON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 12, 1997--Alcatel announced today a technology demonstration with Intel Corporation [Nasdaq:INTC - news] at next week's Comdex show in Las Vegas of a prototype, easy-to-use ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line) modem that promises to revolutionize ADSL services for home and business
environments. This prototype is unique in that it simplifies installation by connecting to a personal computer's Universal Serial
Bus (USB).>>>

Pierre --

The key, here, is that Intel is developing standards-compliant DMT in the USB. I posted several months ago that I thought this was their plan.

I'll definitely go to Comdex to check it out. :)

Thanks for posting.
