Wouldn't sequencing be more informative when examining an interspecies mixture for research purposes rather than forensic--such as the apparent case here? As a layperson, my impression is that fingerprinting relates more to honing in on the small picture rather than comprehending the big. Perhaps you would be good enough to flesh it out for those of us both curious and fascinated by this work. The reporter of that story could very easily (as you concluded) have been careless in either his understanding or his communication (or for some other reason have misspoken). Also, how does cost/equipment dictate the use of either technique?
